Digital Animation and Game Design's Foster Earns Coveted Internship at Nickelodeon

Kenya FosterKenya Foster, a Ferris State University senior majoring in Digital Animation and Game Design, applied for and received an internship at Nickelodeon, a popular cable and satellite television network with programming geared toward adolescents and children.

A native of Muskegon, Mich., Foster is interning for the Nick Jr. show Wallykazam! in Burbank, Calif. Primarily, Foster assists the production team. She also sets up meetings with artists and crew members on other shows, attends voice recordings and more.

“A lot of the programs, lingo and processes that they use for Wallykazam! are not very far off from the things we are taught in the Digital Animation and Game Design program at Ferris,” Foster said. “The program has equipped me with knowledge that helps me feel confident as an intern, and it has laid such a solid foundation. I’m so appreciative of that I’ve gained.”

Of the approximately 1,500 students who applied, just 13 were selected as interns. Foster was the only intern from Michigan who was chosen.

“Kenya was well-prepared because last spring she was in my DAGD Portfolio class that requires students to create resumes, portfolios, demo reels, a website, business cards, attend networking events and go through mock interviews,” said Marty Lier, Ferris faculty member and internship coordinator for DAGD. “I cannot tell you how proud I am of her.”
