Ferris Theatre to Perform Musical, `The Addams Family'

Addams FamilyFerris State University Theatre will present, “The Addams Family,” a musical about a ghoulish American family with a liking for all things morbid, in Williams Auditorium Thursday, Oct. 30 through Sunday, Nov. 2.

The production will be hosted at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.

This musical comedy is based upon the characters created by Charles Addams in his cartoons, and opened on Broadway in April 2010. The Addams Family, led by Morticia and her husband, Gomez, find themselves in a chaotic situation when their daughter, Wednesday, invites her new love’s “normal” family over for dinner so they can all get better acquainted.

“Students will get to see a good show, seeing people they know from their classes do something completely different and impressive,” said Katherine La Pietra, a professor of Theatre at Ferris. “For some, it’s an introduction to the joys of live theatre.”

La Pietra noted that when the rights became available, this production was the perfect fit for Ferris State Theatre’s large cast and for an opening date the night before Halloween. Students from many majors and programs are involved in the production. Morticia Addams will be played by Jessica Wheatley while Gomez Addams will be played by Lee Nickisson.
