Ferris to Host Mission of Mercy Free Dental Care Clinic, May 30-31

Mission of Mercy Free Dental Care ClinicFerris State University is hosting the Mission of Mercy Free Dental Care Clinic, which is open to the public, beginning Friday, May 30 and running through Saturday, May 31 in the Ewigleben Sports Complex located at 210 Sports Drive in Big Rapids.

Clinic doors open at 6 a.m. and patients are treated on a first-come-first-served basis. Everyone is welcome, but doors will close when the clinic’s maximum capacity is reached. Services that are provided to adults and children, based on priority, include cleanings, extractions, fillings and limited root canals and replacements (up to six teeth). Not all dental services are available. Patients can check the Mission of Mercy website for more details. Clinic organizers expect to serve more than 1,000 patients during the two-day effort in Big Rapids.

Ferris’ College of Pharmacy officials expect approximately 40 of their students and 10 of their pharmacists (alumni and faculty) to volunteer during the Mission of Mercy Free Dental Care Clinic. Jeff Bates, an associate professor in the College of Pharmacy, has arranged for Ferris’ Pharmacy Care Clinic to be open to fill prescriptions during the two-day period.

The Michigan Mission of Mercy Free Dental Care Clinic is sponsored by Benco Dental, Delta Dental, Henry Schein Dental, the Mecosta County Community Foundation, the Michigan Dental Association, the Michigan Dental Association Foundation and Patterson Dental.

Volunteers may sign up on the Mission of Mercy website. Some volunteer opportunities are still available. People choosing to participate and attend this event are encouraged to read through the patient information and patient FAQs on the MOM website.
