Ferris State University Power Outage

UPDATE: Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014 at 3 p.m.

Power has been restored to all areas of Ferris State University’s Big Rapids campus.

UPDATE: Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014 at 12:45 p.m.

The installment of a replacement transformer to restore power to the northeast area of the Ferris State University Big Rapids campus is in progress. To best ensure that the replacement transformer is safely installed, powered up and tested, the start of classes held in the Alumni and Prakken buildings will be pushed back to 3 p.m. All classes in the affected buildings beginning prior to 3 p.m. are canceled. Classes beginning at 3 p.m., or later, are expected to be held as normally scheduled in Alumni and Prakken.

Power has been restored in the Automotive Building, and classes are on as scheduled beginning at 1 p.m.

Day-shift employees working in Alumni, Prakken and West buildings will be delayed beginning work until 2 p.m. to allow complete installation, power up and testing of the replacement transformer. Any employees with questions about whether they should report should contact their supervisors.

Updates will be posted on www.ferris.edu as they become available.

UPDATE: Monday, Jan. 13, 2014 at 11:30 p.m.

As of 11:30 p.m., this evening (Jan. 13), power to the northeast area of the Ferris State University's Big Rapids campus remains out due to a failed transformer. A potential replacement transformer did not fix the issue. The University is currently exploring another option to bring the northeast region of campus back online by noon on Tuesday, Jan. 14.

As a result of the northeast campus power outage, morning classes in Alumni, Automotive and Prakken buildings are canceled. Classes will resume as scheduled beginning at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 14. Day-shift employees working in Alumni, Automotive, Prakken and West buildings should not report to work until 1 p.m. unless otherwise directed by their supervisors. Any employees with questions about whether they should report are encouraged to contact their supervisors.

Power on west campus remains restored.

Updates will be posted on www.ferris.edu as they become available.

UPDATE: Monday, Jan. 13, 2014 at 6:30 p.m.

As of 6:30 p.m. today (Jan.13), a blown fuse has been replaced and power has been restored to the southwest area of the Big Rapids campus.

The power outage affecting northeast campus was caused by a transformer failure. A replacement transformer is en route to Big Rapids and power restoration is expected by midnight.

Updates will be posted on www.ferris.edu as they become available.

UPDATE: Monday, Jan. 13, 2014 at 5 p.m.

As of 4:30 p.m. today (Jan. 13), Ferris State University continues to experience a power outage that affects various academic buildings, residence halls and student apartments on the Big Rapids campus.

An issue with a transformer is believed to have caused the power outage in Prakken, Alumni, West, Automotive and Granger buildings.

A second unrelated power outage has affected facilities south of Ferris Drive, including Henderson, Puterbaugh, Bond, Cramer and Bishop halls, Westside Cafe, West Campus Apartments, Creative Arts Center and Southwest Commons.

There may be intermittent power outages as crews work to restore power.
