Ferris State University Student Stabbed in Weekend Incident (Feb. 23)

Officers from the Big Rapids and Ferris State University departments of public safety arrested a suspect late this afternoon (Sunday, Feb. 23) in connection with a stabbing incident that occurred early Sunday morning. As a result of the ongoing investigation into the stabbing, police officers learned that the incident took place on campus in a Ferris residence hall where the suspect and the victim, both Ferris students who are acquainted with each other, live.

The suspect, who was arrested without incident, is currently being held in the Mecosta County Jail. While the suspect is now in custody, the investigation into the stabbing is ongoing.

The suspect is expected to be arraigned on Monday afternoon, Feb. 24, at which time bond will be set.

Late this afternoon, an arrest of a suspect was made as part of the ongoing investigation of the stabbing of a Ferris State University student early Sunday morning, Feb. 23. Both the suspect and victim are Ferris students.

As more details have surfaced during the course of the investigation, Ferris’ Department of Public Safety has taken on a greater role in the incident. Sunday’s arrest was made by police officers from both the Big Rapids and Ferris departments of public safety.

UPDATE: Sunday, Feb. 23 at 7:30 a.m.

Ferris State University’s Department of Public Safety was made aware of an off-campus stabbing incident that occurred on Sunday, Feb. 23 at the Oakwood Apartments on 14 Mile Road southeast of the Big Rapids campus.

The incident, which is currently under investigation by the Mecosta County Sheriff’s Department, occurred between 2 and 3 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 23.

The stabbing victim is a Ferris student who has been treated and released by Spectrum Health Big Rapids Hospital. The suspect is currently at large and is described as a 6-foot, 170-pound Caucasian male with medium-length brown hair, a scruffy and lighter-colored beard, who was wearing a white hat with a different colored brim. The suspect was believed to have used a pocket knife with a two-to three-inch blade in the stabbing. The identity of the suspect is currently unknown.
