Ferris State University is offering a colorful way for students to have fun and raise money for a good cause with the “Live United Color War on Saturday, Sept. 28.
Unlike The Color Run, an international 5K race that showers runners with colored powder at stations along the course, the university’s Color War features an obstacle course, dance party and “color war.”
Like The Color Run, which partners with a charity at each location, proceeds from the Color War will go to the Mecosta-Osceola United Way.
“The proceeds will directly benefit the local United Way, which supports Big Brothers
Big Sisters, WISE, Habitat for Humanity, Project Starburst and more,” said Amber Kneibel,
assistant director of Ferris’ Center for Leadership, Activities and Career Services.
“We need students to come out and participate.”
The event begins at 10:30 a.m. at the intramural fields next to the College of Pharmacy building on the west side of campus. Students will be “blasted” with colored powder at four points during the obstacle course, Kneibel said.
“Don’t worry, it doesn’t hurt,” she said.
Students will hang out at a dance party until all participants finish the obstacle course. The event will culminate with students tossing packets of color in a “color war.”
Cost is $12 for participants who pre-register online https://ebill.ferris.edu/C20079_ustores/web/store_cat.jsp?CATID=203&STOREID=5 or on campus at the University Recreation Center from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 14; 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25; 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26; or 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27.
Cost is $15 for those who register the day of the event (cash or check required).
Participants will receive two color packets, and the first 300 to register will receive a T-shirt, which will be available for pickup on Friday so it can be worn during the event. Additional color packets will be available at the event for $2 each. Participants should arrive between 9 and 10:15 a.m. for check-in or registration.
The Live United Color War is sponsored by CLACS and University Recreation.
