Ferris State University’s Student Government Association will team with the American Marketing Association student organization to host its annual Holiday Food Drive just in time for Thanksgiving.
The nonperishable food items that are collected will benefit Project Starburst, a nonprofit organization that provides food to residents of Mecosta and Osceola counties who are in need of assistance.
“We’re really excited to team up with Student Government for this event,” said junior Anders Johnson, a Marketing major from Brooklyn Park, Minn., who also serves as vice president of community service for AMA. “Project Starburst is an awesome organization that we hope to work with more in the future.”
The Holiday Food Drive begins Monday, Nov. 11 and runs through Friday, Nov. 22.
During this time, students and staff will have multiple opportunities to donate food items. Every year, Student Government sets up food bins in campus residence halls for people to drop off donations. The residence hall that collects the most food items will win a pizza party, sponsored by the Big Rapids Mancino’s Pizza and Grinders restaurant.
Registered student organizations can collect donations as well and drop them off at the Student Government office in Helen Ferris, Room 26. All RSO donations must be turned in at once by 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 22. The RSO that collects the most items will win a $50 gift certificate to the Ferris State University Copy Center.
This year, Student Government will be providing a donation table in the Interdisciplinary Resource Center and Ferris Library for Information, Technology and Education. The tables will be in the IRC on Nov. 12-14, and Nov. 19-21 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and in FLITE on those days from 4 to 7 p.m.
Students and staff who donate at these locations will be entered into a raffle to win prizes donated by local businesses such as Family Video and A La Mode Café.
“I’m happy that we are offering so many different opportunities for people to donate this year,” said Student Government President Erin Williams.
