University Music Department Concerts Offer Variety of Music

Ferris State UniversityThe Ferris State University Music Center will present seven free concerts featuring a variety of music for the fall and holiday seasons.

The concert season kicks off Thursday, Nov. 7 with the Symphony Band Fall Concert and wraps up Sunday, Dec. 8 with the Holiday Band and Orchestra concert.

“We are always presenting new music at these concerts – some shows with themes and some shows with guest artists,” said Matt Moresi, director of Ferris’ jazz band, which will perform Wednesday, Nov. 13 and again Tuesday, Dec. 3.  “Our first show will feature the musical contributions of Miles Davis, and our holiday jazz show is in collaboration with the university choir.”

Admission is free to all concerts, and the public is invited to attend.

The concerts will be held in Williams Auditorium on campus, unless otherwise noted.

Symphony Band Fall Concert – 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 7
FSU Athletic Pep Band Faculty Director Dale Skornia will be featured as a guest conductor.

West Central Concert Band Veterans Day Concert – 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 10
The performance will include of a special selection that features music from all five branches of service.  Veterans, active military personnel and their family members will be invited to stand and be recognized.

Jazz Band Fall Concert – 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13

West Central Chamber Orchestra Fall Concert – 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 17

Concert Choir Fall Concert – 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19, Big Rapids High School Auditorium

Holiday Jazz and Choir Concert – 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3, Big Rapids High School Auditorium

Holiday Band and Orchestra Concert – 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8


The Symphony Band, West Central Concert Band, West Central Chamber Orchestra will perform under the direction of Richard Scott Cohen. Cate Arroe directs the Concert Choir.
