The musical stylings of the Ferris Community Summer Band will fill the air once again, when its 48th concert season begins on Wednesday, June 12.
The community band, sponsored by Ferris State University as part of its “Music for Life” initiative, is open to area adults, college and high school students, and middle school students with advanced music experience.
“The Ferris Community Summer Band unites Ferris State University and greater Big Rapids area through music,” said director Richard Scott Cohen, a professor of Music at Ferris who also directs its Instrumental Concert Ensembles.
The band will perform music from a variety of genres, from jazz to pop to marches and Broadway tunes, during its six-concert season. The concerts, which are free and open to the public, begin at 7 p.m. at various locations through July 10.
“The Ferris Community Summer Band provides numerous opportunities for residents and visitors to experience live music in a variety of musical venues,” Cohen said. “It makes a significant impact on the lives of many people.”
The concerts support community efforts such as the Roof Replacement Project at the
