Memorial Mass Planned Jan. 16 for Ferris Pharmacy Faculty Member

Dr. Lucy NgohA memorial Mass for Dr. Lucy N. Ngoh, an associate professor of pharmacy at Ferris State University, will be celebrated at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16 at St. Paul Catholic Chapel in Big Rapids. Ngoh died after being injured in a Dec. 30 bus accident in the West African nation of Cameroon.

Ngoh, who joined Ferris’ College of Pharmacy in 1992, was visiting relatives in her native country during the university’s holiday break when the accident occurred.

During her time at Ferris, Ngoh served on the Academic Senate and was a member of the Faculty Center for Teaching and Learning Advisory Group and International Education Committee in addition to her teaching responsibilities. She also was a facilitator for the Jim Crow Museum of Racist Memorabilia.

Ngoh, whose research focused on health literacy, service learning and international health, was a registered pharmacist and certified health education specialist. She was active with the professional Cameroonian Community in the United States and Cameroon, the latter of which she visited yearly.

Ngoh also was active in various Big Rapids-area organizations and worshipped at St. Mary-St. Paul Parish, where she was a member of the pastoral council and choir, and volunteered in the religious education program.
