Ferris State University and Meijer are teaming up to kick off the fall semester with a little madness.
The first weekend of the 2013-14 academic year once again will include Meijer Madness at the Big Rapids store on Perry Avenue from 7 to 10 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 24. The ninth annual event will give students the opportunity to learn about the Big Rapids community, meet new people, participate in fun activities and do some back-to-school shopping.
“This is a fun, carnival-like event that allows students to take a break from the stress of moving in and getting ready for classes and go out and have a good time,” said Fernando Labra, coordinator of Intramural and Club Sports. “It also gives students a chance to see what Meijer and other local businesses have to offer.”
There will be giveaways and raffles, a live DJ, a photo booth and the Ferris Athletic Department’s new inflatable Bulldog. Coupons will be offered for a discount on any purchases for the new academic year.
Shuttle buses will be available to transport students to and from Meijer. Pickup locations on campus include Lot 63, Bond Hall and the circle by Merrill and Travis residence halls. Shuttles will pick up students every 15 to 20 minutes, and a handicapped accessible bus also will be available.
Meijer Madness is one of several events planned during Bulldog Beginnings, a program designed by a committee of representatives from several Ferris organizations to welcome new students to campus as well as returning students.
