Ferris to Host State MATHCOUNTS Competition Saturday

For the first time, Ferris State University will host a State MATHCOUNTS Competition on Saturday, March 17 in the Rankin Student Center beginning at 9 a.m.

The event welcomes approximately 150 middle-school “mathletes” from across the state for a competitive yet fun day. The top four competitors will form a team that will be Florida-bound to represent Michigan at the national competition in at Walt Disney World in Orlando.

A group of more than 30 Ferris volunteers comprised of students, faculty and staff are involved in this weekend’s event. Additionally, volunteers from the Michigan Society of Professional Engineers will be assisting.

One of the highlights of the event is the 1 p.m. CountDown round featuring the top 10 finalists of middle-school students ready to showcase their math abilities.
