Ferris State University’s Office of International Education is celebrating the Chinese New Year on Tuesday, Jan. 24, beginning at 5 p.m. in the Rankin Student Center Dome Room.
Ferris’ international community, in collaboration with the Diversity and Inclusion Office, is set to put on a campus celebration of the Chinese New Year.
“There is a growing number of Chinese students at Ferris and we want to give them the opportunity to celebrate their culture and to show the Ferris community different customs,” said Tara Braun, Study Abroad and National Student Exchange manager.
The celebration at Ferris will feature aspects of the culture of China through music, dancers and Kung Fu.
“The Chinese Student Group will have several learning tables representing China’s different traditions,” Braun said. “At these tables, students will learn how to speak and write basic Chinese, learn about traditions and engage in paper-cutting activities which are popular in China.”
Learning tables will be hosted by Ferris faculty members. These tables will provide a platform for faculty members to teach students about topics related to China, including eastern religions.
The event is sponsored by the Diversity and Inclusion Office.
