Bitzinger and Yeoman to Host Festival of the Arts Photography Workshop

Bitzinger and YeomanFerris State University photographer Bill Bitzinger and local photographer Matt Yeoman are set to host “De-Mystifying Digital Photography,” on Monday, Feb. 13 in Room 104 of Ferris’ Prakken Building as part of the Festival of the Arts at 7 p.m.

Bitzinger and Yeoman will introduce composition tools, camera exposure tools, image archiving, file types, and image storage and retrieval. Participants are suggested to bring their cameras and an image for critique and discussion. Questions from attendees are encouraged at the event.

“Depending on time, this year’s workshop could offer a hands-on session with the use of a portrait,” said Bitzinger, coordinator of Photographic Services at Ferris.

Yeoman added that the discussion this year will be focused more on how to use the camera rather than the camera itself.

“We are going to emphasize the basics of photography and how to apply that regardless of the camera that you are using,” he said.

With the workshop fast approaching, Bitzinger is looking forward to the high energy and experience Yeoman brings “to the mix” each time.

“We’ve been friends for a long time,” Yeoman said. “Any opportunity that I get to work with him is great.”

The two agree that one of the highlights of hosting the workshop is the opportunity to see people in the audience have that “ah ha” moment when they get it.

Bitzinger has been a professional photographer since 1986 and coordinator of Photographic Services at Ferris since 1992. Yeoman has worked as a professional photographer for five years and was assistant university photographer at Ferris from 2003 to 2008. He is the owner of Yeoman Photography in Big Rapids.

In addition to this workshop, a photography competition with a deadline for submissions set for Monday, Feb. 20 is being hosted. Awards and presentation are scheduled for Wednesday, Feb.  22 at Yeoman Photography, located at 225 South Michigan Avenue Suite B (the alley entrance) in Big Rapids.

Seating is limited, so advance registration is required. Please contact Bitzinger at (231) 591-2374 or to register.
