The Ferris State University Jazz Band will hit the stage with big band, rock and Latin pieces when it presents its Winter Jazz Concert at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 29 in the Rankin Student Center Dome Room.
The 21-piece band will perform under the direction of Matt Moresi, Ferris’ assistant professor of Music.
“The concert will feature old jazz standards such as ‘St. Louis Blues’ and ‘The Preacher,’ as well as newer music for the jazz ensemble,” Moresi said. “Audience members should expect a diverse program featuring improvised solos from band members.”
The concert also will feature a performance by guest artist Rob Smith, a jazz professor at Central Michigan University in Mount Pleasant.
“He plays both saxophone and trumpet, a rare double in the music world,” Moresi said.
The concert is free and open to campus and community members.
