Hospitality Program to Host Gala 2012: 'An Evening in the Emerald Isle'

Hospitality Gala 2012The 21st annual Ferris State University Hospitality Gala, “An Evening in the Emerald Isle,” is set for Friday, March 23 at 5:30 p.m. in the Holiday Inn Hotel and Conference Center in Big Rapids.

The annual gala started in 1991 and serves as a showcase of the diverse talents of Ferris Hospitality students. The gala is entirely a student-directed project. Hospitality students seeking gala leadership positions undergo a rigorous selection process, which includes an interview with the hospitality faculty and industry professionals. Gala leaders orchestrate the planning of the event by creating committees, building agendas, scheduling meetings and developing ideas for making the gala a special and profitable event. All hospitality students participate in some capacity from valet parking, to wait staff, to chef assistance.

The Gala includes an exquisite five-course culinary feast, silent/live auction and live entertainment. This year, celebrity chef Edward Hayden will join the team, directly from Ireland. Hayden has authored two cookbooks on Irish cuisine and entertainment, has his own cooking show in Ireland and offers a variety of cooking classes that attract tourists from around the world.

All proceeds from the gala benefit Hospitality Management program students. The hospitality industry needs well-educated professionals. This event is an opportunity to assist students as they look toward the future by attending, sponsoring or donating auction gifts.

Reserved Hospitality Gala seating is $75 per person. Organizers note that 50 percent of the ticket price is tax deductible. “An Evening in the Emerald Isle” will take on an Irish theme as part of Chef Hayden’s visit. The Holiday Inn is offering a special room rate for guests of the gala on the night of the event.
