Ferris State University’s Construction Management program has earned the renewal of
accreditation from the American Council for Construction Education.
The Board of Trustees of the ACCE in March announced the renewal of accreditation of the Bachelor of Science degree program. The board’s action asserts the program had maintained the stringent standards of ACCE and had proven to the Board, through a visiting team of its peer and industry practitioners, that the program was worthy of reaccreditation.
The Construction Management Program is offered through the School of Built Environment in Ferris’ College of Engineering Technology. Current enrollment is about 270 students in all programs within the school. About 50 students graduate from the Construction Management program each year.
“Accreditation tells prospective students and employers that Ferris’ Construction Management program contains a necessary body of knowledge to be in construction project management,” said Robert Eastley, associate professor and program coordinator. “As a result, many of the most prestigious construction firms in the country recruit our graduates.”
Eastley describes the Construction Management program as one in which students learn in a variety of hands-on labs that touch on all of the trades. Students obtain education related to project management, including estimating, scheduling, contracts and safety, as well as a core of business, engineering and communication-related classes.
The American Council for Construction Education was established in 1974 to be a leading global advocate of quality construction education, and to promote, support and accredit quality construction education programs around the world. ACCE is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation as the accrediting agency for four-year baccalaureate degree programs in Construction, Construction Science, Construction Management and Construction Technology, and the accrediting agency for two-year associate degree programs of a similar nature.
