In 2006, “The Trail of Tears: Cherokee Legacy” was voted “Best Documentary” by the American Indian Film Institute.
The award-winning documentary is set to be shown on Tuesday, Nov. 22 as part of Native American Heritage Month activities atFerrisStateUniversitybeginning at 11 a.m. in FLITE 304.
The Chip Richie documentary chronicles the events of the 1830s that unfolded after the implementation of the Indian Removal Act of 1830. Cherokee people were forcibly relocated from the country’s southeast region to territories west of theMississippi River.
The documentary, narrated by actor James Earl Jones, lasts approximately 120 minutes.
