Derek Quinn, who earned a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Ferris State University in 2006, has been appointed by Gov. Rick Snyder to serve on the Michigan Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee.
The committee Quinn will serve on advises the Department of Community Health on prescription drug coverage as well as guidelines and issues for its various health care programs.
“I am humbled to be able to serve not just my patients but many throughout Michigan in this unique way,” said Quinn, of Kalamazoo, who serves as pharmacy manager of Westlake Drug, Inc. “I look forward to getting started right away with the next meeting in June.”
From the state of Michigan’s perspective, Quinn is an ideal candidate to serve on the committee.
“Derek’s skills and experience will be important as we work to improve health care programs in Michigan,” Snyder said.
Quinn is a member of the Michigan Pharmacists Association Executive Board. He previously served on the MPA New Practitioner Advisory Committee and as an editor of the 12th edition of the Pharmacy Certified Technician Training Manual.
Quinn will serve the remainder of a two-year term expiring Nov. 1, 2012, replacing Neil Dorfman. His appointment is not subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
