Baran Receives Fellow of Michigan Pharmacists Association Award

Rosalie BaranRosalie Baran, an assistant professor and practicum director in Ferris State University’s College of Pharmacy, was honored with the Fellow of Michigan Pharmacists Association Award.

Baran was recognized at the association’s Annual Convention and Exposition earlier this year at the Detroit Marriott in the Renaissance Center for her achievements in pharmacy, community dedication and activity within the association. Baran initially became a MPA member in 1969 and believes that her involvement with the organization has helped her develop into a better pharmacist and a person.

“I think it’s very important that you’re involved with your profession,” she said. “It’s nice to be recognized for all the things that you kind of do quietly and never talk about to others.”

Baran has been involved with numerous activities such as National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day, where pharmacists donate their time to collect expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs that could be dangerous if left accessible. She has also served on the Multistate Pharmacy Jurisprudence Review Committee for the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy, which reviews national exams pharmacy students take to become pharmacists.

Baran noted that her involvement with the MPA provides her “the opportunity to shape her profession and to move it forward.”

In addition to receiving the Fellow of MPA Award, Baran was inducted into the Michigan Pharmacists Association Pharmacy Hall of Honor for her volunteer leadership in the association in 2008. In 2006, she was given the Lester E. Hosto Inspector Distinguished Service Award from the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy.

“However I can serve my profession, I will continue to do so,” said Baran, a full time Ferris employee since 2007.

Currently, she is a member of the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy, the American Society of Pharmacy Law, the Capital Area Pharmacists Association and serves on the Michigan Colleges of Pharmacy Experiential Programs Committee. Baran also is involved with the Michigan Society of Community Pharmacists Board of Directors.
