Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. Zeta Beta Chapter and Delta Sigma
Theta Sorority, Inc. Zeta Rho will brave the chilly weather conditions
to help feed and clothe those in need.
The two Ferris State University student organizations will join forces on the Campus Quad, Tuesday, Feb. 8, through Wednesday, Feb. 9, from 9 p.m. to 12 a.m. to collect canned goods and donations of clothing to benefit those in need in the Big Rapids area as part of Freezing for a Cause. Canned goods and clothes donated will be distributed locally to Women’s Information Service Inc. and Project Starburst.
Students from Alpha Phi Alpha and Delta Sigma Theta hope to impact the campus community through this symbolic yet practical effort in the middle of winter in northern Michigan. Freezing for a Cause participants plan to work outdoors to collect donations from members of the campus and local communities.
Brandon
Cole, a Ferris student and one of the event organizers, said that he
hopes his fellow students will consider a donation as they look through
their old clothes find items they no longer wear.
For years,
students have reached out to help the community by “giving to a better
cause,” said Cole, president of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. Zeta
Beta Chapter at Ferris.
Event organizers noted that last year
Freezing for a Cause received four bags of clothes and approximately two
boxes of canned goods. This year, the goal is to collect five to six
bags of clothes and at least three boxes of canned goods.
Anyone that wishes to participate is encouraged to dress warm.
