MacEachron Poster Earns Lorrie Ryan Award

BIG RAPIDS – Ferris State University’s Sheila MacEachron earned the Lorrie Ryan Award for Best Poster at this year’s Lilly Conference on College and University Teaching in Traverse City.

MacEachron, program coordinator and associate professor of Nuclear Medicine Technology, presented a poster on online discussions. Recognizing that these types of discussions are used routinely in both web-enhanced and online courses, MacEachron stressed the importance of making online discussions meaningful and interactive.

“It is always enjoyable to share and to receive information with other educators when presenting posters,” she said. “I was honored to receive this award since so many incredible posters were presented.”

The 2010 Lilly Conference was themed “Evidence-Based Learning and Teaching,” a reflection of the belief that the approach to teaching and learning should be based on scholarly activity. As disciplinary approaches use scholarly work to investigate and advance knowledge, pedagogical innovation should also advance by building on the work of others, according to conference organizers.

The conference brought together faculty from a variety of disciplines and at various stages of their academic careers to share new advances in teaching and learning.

“The Lilly Conference was a wonderful opportunity for me to learn new techniques and to talk with other educators from throughout the United States,” MacEachron concluded.
