WILL Conference Inspires Leadership Among College-age Women

BIG RAPIDS – Ferris State University’s Student Government Association and Office of Multicultural Student Services are presenting the eighth annual Women Investing in Leadership & Learning Conference at 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 26, at the Holiday Inn and Conference Center.

The free event will feature three successful business women: Mary Jane Mapes, Marilyn Suttle and Stefanie Brown.

Mapes, founder and president of Mary Jane Mapes CSP: Powerful Strategies for Personal Empowerment, travels the country as a motivational speaker for organizations wishing to develop personal growth amongst staff members.

Suttle is the owner and president of Suttle Enterprises, a personal and professional growth training firm located in the Detroit area. Her clients include Ford Motor Company and the American Cancer Society.

Brown is the CEO of St. Brown Enterprise, and is involved with the NAACP Youth and College Division in Baltimore. She also is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and has been featured on CNN and MSNBC, and in USA Today.

“It is important to have this conference because it inspires college women to see that women can succeed and be independent in the professional workforce,” said Lindsey Caudill, a Marketing and Sales senior from Jenison and W.I.L.L. Conference coordinator.

According to Caudill, the theme for the conference is focused on the future of women’s lives and jobs during tough economic times. Each speaker will talk about their industry, the secrets to their success, and how to plan for the future on financial, personal and professional levels.

Caudill said the goal for this year is to have 250 to 300 students attend. The conference will also offer appetizers, drinks and a drawing for a gift bag.
