BIG RAPIDS – The Live! at Williams series is kicking off its 2008-09 season with The Aquila Theatre Company’s production of Shakespeare’s A Comedy of Errors at 8 p.m. Oct.2 in G. Mennen Williams Auditorium on the campus of Ferris State University.
A Comedy of Errors is one of Shakespeare’s most vibrant and sparkling comedies. The shrewd and inventive plot relates an intricate and energetic story of two pairs of identical twins in the same household separated by a devastating shipwreck. But as this delightful comedy unfolds, all is not what it seems. Shakespeare’s remarkable staging propels a glorious, farcical romp. The Aquila Theatre Company’s imaginative and exuberant production of Shakespeare’s classic comedy is a “must-see” for newcomers to Shakespeare and Bard enthusiasts alike.
In addition to the performance a pre show lecture will be held with members of The Aquila Theatre ensemble at 7 p.m. in Starr 114. Hear how the company is committed to making classical theater works available and relevant to today’s audiences. Following the performance, associate professor Christine Vonder Haar of the Language and Literature department will lead discussion on whether or not the Aquila production maintains the integrity of Shakespeare’s classic. The discussion will be held in the auditorium lobby immediately after the performance.
In its sixth season, the performing arts series at Williams Auditorium presents an eclectic group of high-quality, nationally-acclaimed artists to culturally enrich, educate and entertain students and the community. Live! at Williams is a program of Williams Auditorium and the Humanities department in the College of Arts and Sciences at Ferris.
