Students compete, gather food for less fortunate

pictureBIG RAPIDS - Students at Ferris made the holidays a little brighter for area food banks after gathering nearly 1.5 tons of food during the Student Government hosted "Coming Together for the Holidays."

According to Student Government, western Michigan food banks are expected to suffer a 37-million pound shortage in food and food inventory. The food gathered during the competition was donated to local food banks.

"The campus food drive was a tremendous success," Student Government President Joe Viviano said. "Ferris students are an integral part of the Big Rapids community and their generosity illustrates just how they feel about the people of Mecosta County. It's something Student Government is very proud to have sponsored."

The top three organizations collecting food were the Graphic Arts Association, first; College Republicans, second; and Alpha Sigma Tau sorority, third.
