pictureBIG RAPIDS – The Ferris State University department of Intercollegiate Athletics has named Jon Coles to the associate athletics director position.

“We’re thrilled to add an individual to our (athletics) staff with the experience and enthusiasm which Jon brings,” Athletics Director Tom Kirinovic said. “He has demonstrated a great amount of success locally with the Big Rapids High School sports boosters and also at Lake Superior State University. We (at Ferris State) want to tap into the success which he has accomplished and help him expand our relationships with Ferris supporters and boosters.

Coles’ primary responsibilities will be overseeing the Athletics department’s business operations, serving as the marketing and promotions director, and coordinating game-day management for football and hockey.

A native of Greenville, Coles arrives at Ferris after serving as the activities and athletics director/assistant principal at Big Rapids High School since 2004. Before his position at Big Rapids, Coles was the men’s and women’s tennis head coach, along with intramural director, at Lake Superior State University in Sault Ste. Marie from 2001-04.

He and his wife, Emily, and their 3-month-old son, Carson, live in Big Rapids.
