Assistant to Associate Professor
Joe Wist
SME Student Organization
Students in the
Manufacturing Engineering Technology program have the option
of joining the student chapter of the Society of
Manufacturing Engineers (SME). The student chapter, S129, is
affiliated with Chapter 38, located in Grand Rapids,
Michigan.
The ferris student chapter is very active. Student members participate in field trips, fund raisers, educational events, and social events. Assistant Professor Joe Wist is the current student chapter advisor. Other program faculty provide assistance as needed. Kevin Rock has been selected as President-Elect for the 2007-2008 year.
The biggest event of the year is the annual 'road trip.' The trip agenda encompasses travel to places like Toronto, Canada, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Chicago, Illinois, and Detroit. Tours are conducted at a variety of manufacturing facilities. Last year, the group went to south eastern Wisconsin. Click on the picture tour to view some of the tour sites here.
The 2007 SME spring road trip involved the group traveling to north eastern Indiana to a steel mill, a two night staying Chicago, with a side trip to Racine, Wisconsin. A picture tour can be viewed by clicking here.
