The second annual National Summer Transportation Institute was held at Ferris State University from August 4-10, 2013! Twenty high school students (ages 14-17) packed their bags and headed to our Big Rapids campus for a week of transportation fun.
-Making and breaking concrete cylinders
-Making asphalt cylinders
-MDOT Trac modules
-Team Elmer's tour of a construction project and their facilities
-A trip to Traverse City to Northwestern Michigan College's Aviation program where they flew in planes, practiced on simulators and went up in the active control tower.
-Behind the scenes tour of Cherry Capital Airport
-Tour of the US Coast Guard station
-Visit to the Maritime Academy where they toured the facilities and went aboard the training ship.
-Ferry ride to Beaver Island
The 2014 camp will be held August 3-9.
