National Summer Transportation Institute

NSTI Summer Camp Group

The fifth annual National Summer Transportation Institute (NSTI) will be held at Ferris State University from July 31 to August 6, 2016. High school students (ages 14–17) are encouraged to apply for this one-week camp sponsored by the Federal Highway Administration, the Michigan Department of Transportation and Ferris State University. Students from around the state will head to the Ferris State University campus in Big Rapids and the Northwestern Michigan College (NMC) campus in Traverse City for a week of transportation related fun!

Activities to include:

  • Making and breaking concrete cylinders
  • Making asphalt cylinders
  • Completing MDOT Trac Bridge module
  • Touring Team Elmers Facilities
  • Touring U.S. Coast Guard station
  • Touring Cherry Capital Airport Operations
  • Learning about aviation at NMC's Aviation Campus through simulators and an introductory flight
