Keith G. Calkins is a Adjunct Instructor 3 in the Dept. of Physical Sciences. He has taught Astronomy, Physics, Computer Science, and Chemistry at Ferris.; Elsewhere he has also taught Mathematics, Statistics, and Education courses from high school to the graduate level. He considers mathematics his first love, and computers his second, but got his Ph.D. in metrology (physics). His published research has generally involved the four areas he also has secondary certification in: math, physics, chemistry, and computer science. For his dissertation he statistically analyzed a billion measurements to obtain the Cs-133 D1 frequency to 13 significant digits. A book on Geometry is nearing publication.
Keith is a member of the American Mathematical Society, American Physical Society, Sigma Xi, Pi Mu Epsilon, Sigma Pi Sigma, Phi Kappa Phi, National Speleological Society, Sons of the American Revolution, and the Michigan Centennial Farm Association, to name a few.
Keith uses his science research skills in his non-academic life: farming, forestry, genetic testing, and computer preservation.
