Mathematics Department

The Department of Mathematics offers a variety of programs for study. The Department supports majors in Applied Mathematics, Mathematics, and Secondary Mathematics Education, and minors in Computer Science, Elementary Mathematics Education, Mathematics, and Secondary Mathematics Education. Students who pursue an Applied Mathematics major may choose from one of five concentrations: Actuarial Science, Computer Science, Industrial Mathematics, Operations Research, or Statistics.

Through one of the majors or minors, a student may prepare for a career in business, engineering technology, finance, insurance, industry, or education; acquire the necessary mathematics preparation for professional studies in engineering, pharmacy, or optometry; or earn a liberal arts degree in preparation for graduate study.

Specialized mathematics courses support student needs in a variety of majors throughout the university. In addition, the Mathematics Department offers general education and service courses that meet the university quantitative skills requirement.

The Mathematics Department consists of 25 faculty members, with specializations in applied mathematics, computer science, general education, mathematics education, pure mathematics, and statistics. The Mathematics Department office is located in ASC 2021. Computer science and mathematics courses are taught in the Starr and Science Buildings.
