The Bachelor of Arts in Biology is designed for students who are interested in careers, such as scientific illustration and environmental law, which require a fair amount of biological knowledge but also require additional skills that can be acquired through coursework in other areas. Compared to the Bachelor of Science in Biology, this degree requires fewer upper-level courses in biology, chemistry, mathematics, and physics. It does require the completion of a minor and some additional general education requirements. Students in this program complete a biology core that includes courses in cell biology, genetics, microbiology, evolution, anatomy and physiology, and the environment. They take additional coursework according to their own individual interests within the biological sciences (e.g., entomology, parasitology, botany). They also study the fundamentals of chemistry (through organic chemistry) to more fully understand life processes.
