Health Information Management:
Bachelor of Science Completion Program Online

Program Curriculum Guide for HIM Bachelor Completion Program

Ferris State University offers an opportunity for graduates of a Commission on the Accreditation of Health Information and Informatics Management (CAHIIM) accredited Health Information Technology program to complete the Bachelor of Science Degree in Health Information Management.  Designed with the working RHIT in mind, the professional courses (HCSA and MRIS) are offered online.

Unless the graduate has had a course in ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS coding from an accredited institution, the student will need to successfully complete this course prior to graduation from the Health Information Management program.  Because this class is not offered in an online format at Ferris, the student could take an equivalent course through an accredited Health Information program.

Some general education courses are not offered online at Ferris.  Students would need to take the following courses at a Ferris campus or their equivalents at another college/university.

These classes include:

  • ACCT 201- Principles of Accounting
  • ISYS 105 - Introduction to Micro Systems-Software
  • ISYS 200 - Database Applications
  • MATH 115 - Intermediate Algebra
  • MGMT 301 - Applied Management

Upon successful completion of the Health Information Management program, the graduate will be eligible to take the registration exam (RHIA).

General Admission Requirements:

  • Graduate of CAHIIM* accredited Health Information Technology (HIT) program
  • 2.5 cumulative GPA
  • Copy of AHIMA membership card showing Registered Health Information Technology credentials (RHIT)
