Health Information Management Program (HIM)

Greetings to Prospective Health Information Management Students!

Welcome to our website and thank you for your interest in the FSU Health Information programs.   If you want the business side of health care, one of the health information programs may be a good choice for you.   Employment is expected to grow faster than average for health information professionals.    Job prospects should be very good; graduates will be ready to assume key roles in supporting the electronic health record applications.   Health information managers/administrators supervise the processes of data collection and analysis  which are critical for providing high quality patient care.  Experienced administrators will be employed in supervision and management, overseeing the work of the coding, correspondence, release of information, statistics, and quality sections. All positions within this field require proficiency with computers, careful attention to detail, and the ability to work independently.   Students will complete assignments using both paper and electronic health records.

In the fall of each year, satisfaction surveys are sent via email or U.S. mail to Health Information Management graduates and employers.  For the 2010-11 academic year, 8 graduate and employer surveys were sent out.  Four graduate surveys were returned and four employer surveys were returned.  Results of the surveys showed that:

  • 100% of the Health Information Management (HIM) graduates are employed and/or continuing their education
  • 100% of the HIM graduates are satisfied with the education they received at Ferris
  • 100% of the HIM graduates who took the Registered Health Information Administration (RHIA) certification exam passed (3)
  • 100% of the employers are satisfied with the HIM graduates they hired
