Core Requirements
The Core Curriculum is a set of courses that all College of Health Professions students have to successfully complete based on degree level. Out of these requirements, there are three courses with the CCHS (Core Curriculum Health Sciences) prefix offered from the core curriculum program. Please check your degree completion agreement for your individual requirements.

CCHS 101 Orientation to Health Care (3 cr.)

Segments of the health care industry will be identified and described with the historical background, functions, interrelationships, and future role of each being presented.

CCHS 102 Safety Issues-Health Care (1 cr.)

The course addresses work place health and safety.  Topics include potential chemical and physical hazards, rights and responsibilities of employers and employees under OSHA, JCAHO safety and environmental care standards, the need for documentation and reporting of hazard activities, hazard communication plans, emergency preparedness (fire, chemical spills, tornadoes, etc.) ergonomic risks and roles and responsibilities of environmental services. 

 CCHS 315 Epidemiology – Statistics (3 cr)

Study of diseases and their distribution among people. Topics include methods of data collection, analysis, presentation, and sources of vital statistics. Statistics used in the health sciences are introduced, along with application in conducting epidemiological studies. Epidemiology topics include uses and applications, frequency measures, public health surveillance, and journal article interpretation. Statistical topics include measures of central, distribution, statistical inference, and tests of statistical significance.         

 

ALL CORE CURRICULUM COURSE REQUIREMENTS and (MINIMUM GRADE REQUIREMENT FOR THE COURSE) MUST BE MET FOR A STUDENT TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR GRADUATION.

All Associate and Bachelor degree students of the College of Health Professions Sciences (CAHS) must complete the following

ENGL 150 (3 cr.)  Minimum required grade C-

Or

Minimum grade required by the FSU English Dept. for enrollment into ENGL 250

ENGL 250 (3 cr.)  Minimum required grade C

                             Or

Minimum grade required by the FSU English Dept. for enrollment into ENGL 300 level courses

One Communication(COMM) course as required by your program checksheet. Minimum required grade C Examples may include:

COMM 105 (3 cr.)

COMM 221 (3 cr.)

COMM 121 (3 cr.)

COMM 200 (3 cr.)

COMM 201 (3 cr.)

COMM 251 (3 cr.)

                                    and

CCHS 101 (3 cr.) or Equivalent     Minimum required grade C

CCHS 102 (1 cr.) or Equivalent     Minimum required grade C

ISYS 105 (3 cr.)  Minimum required grade C

or

Completion of a Professional Program’s course (with a C or higher grade) in which computer competencies were incorporated 

MRIS 102/103 as per program requirements

All Bachelor of Science Degree students in the CAHS must complete the following:

Minimum required grade C

300 level ENGL (3 cr.)
