In 1884, Woodbridge N. Ferris had a vision - to establish a university that would allow workers in the diminishing lumber trade the opportunity to develop new skills and enhance their lives through education. For more than 120 years, Ferris' vision has continued to build the prominent institution that today bears his name and motivated thousands of young men and women, sons and daughters, to imagine more for their future.
To honor those individuals who believe in the power to help others and who support Ferris' vision in providing opportunity to our future generations to learn and take an active role in their communities, Ferris State University has established the 1884 Circle of Excellence.
