Summer Employment

Summer Student Employment is Different than Fall and Spring

Many Ferris students decide to stay in Big Rapids and work during the summer months. There are several differences between employment during the academic year and summer. Students wishing to find summer on campus employment may access summer job postings beginning April 1. Some of the most notable differences between the academic year and summer are:

  • During the academic year students must be enrolled for at least 6 credits to work. During summer students must be registered for a minimum of 6 credits OR be registered for 6 or more credits for the upcoming fall.
  • During the academic year students are limited to 24 hours per week. During the summer, students that are U.S. citizens may work up to 40 hours per week, if approved by their supervisor.
  • International students may work up to 40 hours per week if they are registered for a minimum of 6 credit hours for summer OR 12 credit hours in the fall semester.
  • During the academic year students are awarded work study based on a first come, first served basis. During the summer, work study funds are extremely limited. Work study is awarded to students demonstrating financial need,  who are returning to jobs they held during the academic year. Students that are enrolled at least half-time for summer will be able to submit an online Work Study Request beginning April 1.
