Orientation Leaders are students in their sophomore, junior or senior year who help facilitate New Student Orientation at Ferris State University.

Orientation Leader duties include, but are not limited to the following

  • Lead new students through Orientation activities
  • Be prepared to make presentations about FSU and transitioning to the University
  • Develop a sense of connection to the FSU campus via your interactions
  • Promote and lead group discussion on program topics
  • Answer questions about the University while being free of personal bias
  • Guide small and large groups to various locations on campus throughout the day as appropriate
  • Aid students in locating classrooms, residence halls and other facilities on campus
  • Serve as a friendly resource to new students and their friends and family
  • Participate in required and training activities
  • Be prompt, prepared, and positive at all times
  • Keep staff informed of any and all problems
  • Assist in creating orientation packets for parents and students on an on-going basis
  • Support Student Ambassadors with daily tours (as needed)
  • Attend weekly staff meetings

Minimum Qualifications

  • Be a returning FSU student with 26 or more earned credits by
    Fall 2012
  • Maintain a 2.5 cumulative GPA or higher
  • Not currently on academic or disciplinary probation
  • Experience in giving presentations and leading group discussions (classroom, RSOs, employment, or volunteer experiences) is strongly encouraged
  • Demonstrated sense of responsibility, dependability, and punctuality
  • Have a positive, friendly, and compassionate personality
  • Be self-confident and articulate
  • Have a general working knowledge of FSU as well as the local communities and all they have to offer
