Big Rapids and Mecosta County Community

Big Rapids and Mecosta County is the place for year-round fun for the entire family! During the summer you can enjoy a canoe trip down the majestic Muskegon River or hit the links at our golf courses recognized by Golfweek and Golf Digest magazines. In the fall enjoy a walk along the scenic Big Rapids Riverwalk - with access for all. The White Pine Trail in the winter is great for snowmobiling or cross-country skiing, and you can cast a line in one of our numerous streams, rivers and more than 100 lakes. Hunting is also abundant with our 14,000 acres of state land and private game areas.

Big Rapids boasts a vibrant, historic, downtown district with many unique shops and businesses within walking distance of the University. Stroll down on your lunch hour and listen to live music every Friday in Pocket Park during the summer and buy the best Michigan-grown produce and flowers at the Farmer’s Market that begins in May of each summer.

The county has award-winning schools and an award-winning hospital, local law enforcement who are well trained and dedicated to making sure our homes and businesses are safe. Arts are alive and well in our downtown, with our own Artworks art gallery that offers classes and sells art by local artists, and hosts, along with Ferris State University, the Festival of the Arts, a month-long celebration of the arts each February.
