Academic Affairs Awards

One of the annual traditions in Academic Affairs is to recognize, honor and celebrate faculty and staff members who demonstrate excellence in their professional endeavors as related to the mission and core values of Ferris State University.

So many of our colleagues embody a passion and work ethic worth emulating.  These individuals positively impact the lives of others through their professional commitments. Every year, we ask the members of our campus community to nominate their deserving colleagues for the Academic Affairs Awards.

The awards offered each year are meant to be reflective in some way of the mission and/or core values of the University.  Each award is assigned an award committee comprised of representative faculty members from our academic colleges and/or individuals related to the purpose of the award.  The members of each committee evaluate the nominations and submissions to recommend the final recipient for the award.

Each spring, we celebrate the award recipients and their contributions to making a difference to those around them and enhancing the academic life of Ferris State University.

Nomination and Submission Instructions

The following forms provide information on and nomination instructions for the 2013 awards.  All nominations are due by Friday, February 15, 2013.

Nominations for the 2013 Distinguished Teacher Award were collected in the 2012 fall semester.

2012 Awardees

In 2012, faculty, staff and students recognized individuals who displayed excellence in teaching, scholarship, service, diversity enhancement, and academic advising.

Our Distinguished Teacher Award recipient, Clifton Franklund, was honored with a plaque at the Ferris State University Employee Service Awards Reception held in April.  Additionally, he received a monetary award of $2500.  Furthermore, as is the tradition with our Distinguished Teachers, Dr. Franklund
served as the Commencement Speaker to address and inspire the 2012 December Ferris State University graduates.

The recipients of our awards recognizing academic scholarship, adjunct teaching excellence, distinguished service, diversity enhancement and outstanding academic advising were also honored with a plaque at the Ferris State University Employee Service Awards Reception held in April; additionally, each recipient received a monetary award of $1500.  We congratulate Kim Colvert, Nell Hill, John Schmidt, Mike Berghoef and Christine Vonder Haar on this special recognition by their peers for their contributions and excellence in areas reflecting the core values and mission of our University.

All of our award recipients enjoyed a private celebration dinner with a guest, Ferris' Provost Fritz Erickson and former Academic Senate President Doug Haneline last spring and were honored on a poster at the Faculty Celebration Event hosted just prior to the start of the 2012-2013 academic year.

We are proud to recognize and honor our 2012 award recipients.
