Learn about the history, culture, and diversity of South Africa. Explore the unique medial and dental needs of South Africans by participating in oral health educational programs for South African community groups including an educational exchange with Oral Hygiene students at a local university. Students will visit Roben Island, Soweto, Mandel’s House, and the Apartheid Museum.
Academic Program
3 Credits in Health Promotions - DHYG 315
4 Credits in Community Assessment & Planning - DHYG 400
3 Credits in Dental Hygiene Practicum - DHYG 491
Students must be in good academic and judicial standing (2.0) GPA, along with successful application and faculty approval.
Cost
Estimated program fee of $4000. Program Fee Includes: airfare, in-country transportation, insurance & lodging. Program Fee Does Not Include: $100 application fee, Ferris tuition, meals, required textbooks, passport, & personal
expenses.
Estimated Total Cost: $6150
Living Arrangements
Program participants will reside in hotels and lodges.
