Orientation is considered mandatory unless it is marked as "optional." All absence must be approved by Liz Matthews or Lisa vonReichbauer prior event. If you miss orientation, you will be charged an additional $85 USD orientation fee to cover costs of providing a make-up orientation session for you.

Student Shuttle Services

  • Shuttles will only be offered during these designated times. Please wait until the next shuttle arrives if possible.
  • If your flight comes in on a day other than listed above, contact Toni Dye (dyet4@ferris.edu) to see if we can arrange a shuttle for you. If a shuttle is not available, or you choose alternate transportation, you are responsible for your own transportation to Big Rapids, as well as any cost (approximately $150 for taxi).
  • A block of rooms have been reserved at Quality Inn & Suites, just a few minutes walking distance from campus. Call 231.592.5150 to reserve a room. Rate is $29.50 + tax per night for double occupancy. Includes breakfast. Quality Inn will assign you a roommate unless you provide your roommates’ name when reserving or upon check-in.

Student Check-In (required)
Please arrive on time with all of your immigration documents. The following items will be addressed throughout the day:

  • Submission of immigration documents.
  • Computer sign in information.
  • Ferris ID.
  • Housing on Campus:
    $200.00 Deposit must be made and contract signed.
  • Tuition deposit of at least $6,000.00.
  • Health forms.

Please remember that Ferris accepts American Express, Discover, MasterCard and VISA.

Math Placement/English Placement Testing (NOT the TOEFL)
This testing is for students with no SAT and intends to enter their majors immediately. Please check with International Student Services if this is required for college placement in math classes. Please report early to this test as no make-up is offered and is required for course placement. Please bring your immigration documents with you.

Saturday, May 18

We will pick you up at Quality Inn and drive you to Campus for orientation. 		 

9:00 am - 12:00 pm (noon)

 TOEFL Testing (IEP Program)
Testing for student with no real proof of proficiency in English. 		IRC
12:00 pm (noon) - 9:00 pm Trip to Grand Haven, Michigan
Lake Michigan beach and shopping. Lunch will be provided on the bus. Family members are welcome to attend. This is a free event! 		Meet at IRC parking lot
Sunday, May 19
All Day

Residence Halls are open at 8am and you may start moving in once you receive your room assignment and pay $200.00 deposit. Shuttles will be available to assist you with moving luggage from Quality Inn to your residence hall or apartment (Big Rapids area only).

Ferris ID and Housing Deposit – You must have a Ferris ID, sign the housing contract, and pay $200.00 before you can receive a housing assignment.

Shuttles pick up at Quality Inn starting at 8am and run all day.
Monday, May 20
10:00 am Meet with individual College Academic Advisors Location TBA
1:00 - 2:00 pm IEP Orientation
New students who are enrolling in the Intensive English Program must attend this orientation. 		IRC
2:30 pm Academic Success at Ferris! (Mandatory)
Groups will find and learn about important offices and resources on campus to help them succeed. This is a “scavenger hunt” where groups will walk around campus finding offices and campus icons. Individuals who complete the hunt will be entered into a drawing for gifts cards and other prizes! 		Meet at IRC
