All About Learning - Lego Camp

Ferris State University is hosting classes facilitated by All About Learning Inc. instructors. Based in Sparta, Michigan, All About Learning is in the business of creating brighter futures, offering classes for school age groups (K-8) that focus on STEM learning. Instructors create a fun, hands on environment to help kids build on their education.

All classes utilize science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) concepts and 21st century educational skills of critical thinking, problem solving, collaboration, agility and adaptability, curiosity and imagination.  Students will get a special take-home project at the end of each camp!!

Gears and Gadgets 1 ™
For students 1st - 3rd Grades

Great hands-on learning and building. Students will creatively build and modify machines through basic engineering skills using our unique LEGO® kits.  Students will get to build a race car, a windmill, a crane, a Merry-Go-Round and more!

  • Basic engineering principles
  • Simple machines
  • Forces in motion
  • Problem solving
  • Communication skills

All About Learning - Junior Engineering

Gears and Gadgets 2™
For students 1st-3rd Grades

Students will build projects of a slightly higher complexity than Gears and Gadgets 1 using gears and motors from our unique 
LEGO® kits. A must for students who enjoy Gears and   Gadgets 1 (though Gears and Gadgets 1 is not required).

  • Design and redesign models

  • Integrated problem solving

Dreamworld™
For students 2nd-6th Grades

Architecture and elements of engineering will be the focus of this exciting program.  Students will be challenged to use their imagination to explore how buildings are designed and built.  This program will incorporate the S.T.E.A.M. elements of learning and utilize 21st Century learning skills.  Students will learn fundamental architecture principles, general application of design principles for both houses and commercial buildings.  Utilizing building blocks with pre-set designs the students will be challenged to re-design their own structures using all the principles and their applications.

Farmland Fun!™
For students 2nd-6th Grades

Farm-themed program will include elements to help the students explore both the old and new farm techniques.  This program will incorporate the S.T.E.A.M. elements in learning and utilizing 21st Century learning skills.  The students will learn about various types of farm machines along with technologies that are used in construction, building and storage.  Students will explore the movement of commodities and how various methods increase efficiencies, along with need for the most advanced equipment.  Tools and animals are discussed and incorporated in the lesson plans to create a great time of learning and fun!

Pullback Car Frenzy is an enrichment course designed to stimulate problem solving and creativity using new and innovative ideas.  This course is jam packed with science! Students will build up to 15 cars using a design pamphlet for each vehicle. Students become Mini-Engineers, challenged to design new vehicles utilizing piece from supplied cars.

  • Laws of gravity 
  • Potential energy Blue Car
  • Kinetic energy 
  • Problem solving
  • Teamwork and Collaboration

  •  Minimum enrollment to run each class is 12. Maximum enrollment 16 for Gears and Gadgets 1 & 2 and a maximum of 22 in Dreamworld, Farmland Fun and Pullback Frenzy.

  • If enrolled in both camps for the day, please bring a sack lunch. A room will be available that will be staffed by an FSU staff or counselor from 12:00pm-1:00pm.
