The Michigan Elevator Laws and Rules, Rule 25 states:

"A power elevator...shall be serviced and examined for defects by a licensed elevator journeyperson at least once every 90 days, except for the following devices which shall be serviced and examined at least once every 180 days:

1. dumbwaiters.
2. one-person elevators, electric and hand-powered.
3. platform lifts and stairway chairlifts in buildings other than private residences.

An accessible written record of all service and examination shall be maintained in the machine room or on-site if a machine room does not exist."
