Communication Tools |
Monday, September 10 from 11:00 - 12:30 in FLITE 438 |
|
During this fireside chat we will be showing off ways to do virtual office hours. Faculty need not be tied to their office just to meet face-to-face with their students. Often online students don’t even have a way to make it to a traditional office. With a simple webcam and headset you can chat with students anytime and anywhere (assuming high speed internet is available). Specifically we’ll look at Skype and Google+ hangout for enhancing our communication with students and peers. |

Certain rooms on campus have been designed to record lectures or meetings. The most common method of doing this is a software title called Tegrity. We will spend the majority of the time looking at the configuration and usage of this tool. Some of the time will be dedicated to talking about best practices in making your lectures available to students. |

Screen Sharing |
Monday, October 1 from 11:00 - 12:30 in FLITE 438 |

My life was made much easier by a website called “Join Me” http://join.me This site uses a web interface to allow two people to view each other’s computer screens. This works great for sharing content or having a student try and explain a complex problem. This free application will be demoed and best practices will be discussed. |
