Basics (Phase 1)

This workshop will cover the basics of FerrisConnect Learn and was designed for instructors who wish to utilize the learning management system for some aspect of the course. You can expect to learn how to navigate through the new look of FerrisConnect Learn. It will cover the basic course tools such as: Announcements, Syllabus, Learning Modules, Calendar, Contacts, Email, and Messages. It will also explore the Grade Center, adding a course syllabus, and how to customize settings.

In this hands-on workshop, participants will learn how to create an assignment, a safe assignment, and a rubric; the rubric will be used to grade the assignment. Participants will also learn how to import a test pool, create a test, create test questions, reuse test questions, and deploy tests.

This workshop highlights some of the FerrisConnect Learn collaboration tools that have the potential to enhance student learning. Participants will learn how to use groups, discussion boards, journals, blogs, wikis, and other collaboration tools. Participants will also learn how to create and use rubrics to grade collaboration assignments.

This is an in-depth workshop on all the components of the Grade Center. Participants will learn how to create, configure, and manage grade center columns, weighted grades, grading schemas, grading periods, and categories. We will also explore color codes and smart views. This workshop is most useful when the participant has a FerrisConnect Learn course with enrolled students enrolled. 

Mobile Learn

Monday, October 29 from 11:00 - noon in FLITE 110

Faculty can use Blackboard Mobile Learn to extend the classroom experience beyond the typical classroom walls. With Blackboard Mobile, students can experience online content and collaboration anywhere they go. This session will look at the features of Blackboard Mobile and explore how the tool can be used. 


Thursday, October 18 from 4:00 - 5:00 in FLITE 110

In this session, we will examine course reports, the early warning system, and the performance dashboard. We will also discuss what is needed by the Registrar's Office when a student withdraws as well as special reports that can be supplied to you from the database. 


Thursday, November 29 from 11:00 - noon in FLITE 110

This session will provide insight into the product roadmap for Blackboard Learn, including Course Delivery, Community Engagement, Content Management, and Outcomes Assessment products. We’ll give a little insight into our release strategy as well as what's planned for 2012 and beyond. You will also learn how Blackboard is preparing its products for emerging trends in education - online collaboration and the application of social media to learning.
