There are times when class cancellation is necessary due to inclement weather. In these cases, the rule of thumb is that if the site or community college where classes are offered is closed, class is canceled. It is suggested that your class develop a plan of action in case a cancellation is necessary (e.g., phone tree or email list).
If the site is still open, but you, as the instructor, feel that the weather is too hazardous for students or you to attend, you will need to telephone the branch office to cancel. Remember that many students drive a distance, so this information will need to be conveyed several hours in advance of the class meeting time to make sure they are not already in transit. The branch office will make every attempt to notify the students of a cancellation.
